“It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of six of our dear colleagues, following the tragic fire at Afriland Towers. Their painful loss leaves an immeasurable void,” the statement read.

United Capital expressed its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the departed, while assuring that it would continue to support them during this period of mourning.

The company further disclosed that arrangements were being made for a memorial service to honour the deceased and pay tribute to their contributions, noting that the ceremony would be conducted with dignity and solemnity.

In its message to staff, the management urged employees to remain united in the face of grief and to draw strength from one another. “May the souls of the departed rest in peace,” the company added.

United Capital also commended emergency services and first responders for their swift intervention during the incident.

Information Nigeria had earlier reported that Afriland Towers, which houses the offices of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and United Capital Plc, was engulfed by smoke last Tuesday, trapping several occupants and forcing some to jump from upper floors in desperation.

The tragic fire claimed at least 10 lives, including four officials of the FIRS who were on active duty at the time of the incident.
