Union Berlin Stun Bayern Munich In 4-goal Thriller To End Perfect Bundesliga Run

Bayern Munich’s perfect start to the Bundesliga season came to an abrupt halt on Saturday after a 2-2 draw with Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Union’s Danilho Doekhi scored twice in a pulsating encounter, while Luis Díaz and Harry Kane found the net for Bayern Munich, who had gone into the match unbeaten in the opening half of any game this season.

The hosts struck first when Doekhi’s header from a corner crept under Manuel Neuer, ending Bayern’s run of first-half clean sheets. The champions, who had looked composed early on, suddenly found themselves chasing the game.

It didn’t take long for Díaz to respond with a moment of pure brilliance. Josip Stanišić sent a pass that looked destined to roll out of play, but Díaz somehow kept it alive on the byline, spun past his marker, and unleashed a powerful strike at the near post that left the Union keeper rooted. It was the Colombian’s third goal in two games, and arguably his best yet.

Union, however, refused to be cowed. In the dying minutes, the England international turned from hero to villain when Kane accidentally flicked on a free-kick straight to Doekhi, who calmly tucked it past Neuer for his second goal of the afternoon.

But Kane made amends deep into stoppage time. With Bayern pressing relentlessly, Tom Bischof floated in a teasing cross and the England striker rose highest to head home the equaliser in the 93rd minute, his 13th goal of the season.

The result means Bayern fall short of matching their club record of ten straight league wins to start a campaign. Their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table is now down from seven points to six.

Before this draw, the Bavarians had won all 16 of their matches across all competitions, marking the best start ever by a men’s side in Europe’s top five leagues.

Bayern will look to bounce back when they host Freiburg on November 22, while Union Berlin travel to Hamburg to face St. Pauli the following day.
