Unidentified gunmen stormed the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Damaturu, Yobe State, in the early hours of Friday, September 19, 2025.
During the attack, the assailants opened fire on a police officer assigned to guard the building, injuring him in the leg.
According to Daily Post, the incident occurred around 2:00 AM, leaving the officer seriously wounded. He was promptly taken to the Police Hospital in Damaturu, where he is currently receiving medical attention.

Rajab Ismail Mohammed, chairman of the NUJ Yobe Council, condemned the attack, describing it as “unfortunate and scary.”
He emphasized that the assault was not only directed at the security officer but also served as “an intimidation tactic against the press corps in Yobe State.”
Mohammed urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.
