An Area Court in Jos on Friday sentenced an unemployed man, Tuagat Moses, to six months imprisonment for stealing six cell phones worth N1. 4 million.
The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to theft.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the judge, however, gave the convict an option of N 30, 000 fine.
He also ordered the convict to pay N1.4 million to the complainant and, in default, spend 18 months imprisonment.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp Ijuptil Daniel, told the court that the case was reported at the State Intelligent Department Jos, on Dec. 18, 2024 by Mr Auwal Umar.
He said that the convict stole an iPhone 13, Techno cannon 20, Redmi A3, Samsung A12, Giones M7 from the complainant’s shop when he was called in to have his faulty MP3 player fixed.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
