LAGOS – Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere in the United Kingdom and Europe, has mourn one of their leaders, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, who died on Friday February 14, 2025 at the age of 96 in his Lekki home, Lagos State.
In a statement by the group’s Secretary, Engr. Anthony Ajayi in London, the group described Pa Adebanjo as a quintessential leader and elder statesman who believed in equity, justice and unity of Nigeria.
Pa Adebanjo was a renowned lawyer, former Organising Secretary of the Action Group, and one of the leaders of Afenifere. He is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, along with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
“The news of the death of one of our leaders came to us as a huge chock. Indeed, we have loss a leader not just in Yoruba land but Nigeria in general. Pa Adebanjo was an elder whose life affected the Yoruba race despite his shortcomings as a human being. He was a leader. We and Nigeria will greatly miss him.
“This is a moment of sobber reflection for us in Afenifere worldwide. A time for us to reflect on our lives to enable us leave a legacy behind just like Pa Adebanjo. It is therefore our prayers that God almighty will grant the family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss”, the group said.
