Ugandan police have revised the death toll from a devastating bus crash on a major highway, lowering it from an initial count of 63 to 46.

In a statement, the Uganda Police Force said the original figure was an overestimate, as some victims were found unconscious at the scene and mistakenly presumed dead.

President Yoweri Museveni, who was campaigning nearby ahead of January’s general elections, offered condolences to the victims and their families.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident and have urged drivers to exercise caution on the country’s roads.
