UEFA Europa League: Osimhen’s absence cost Galatasaray big loss at Alkmaar

1 week ago 29

Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray suffered a 4-1 defeat away to AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the Europa League playoffs on Thursday.

Osimhen did not feature in the first leg tie due to card penalty.

Osimhen’s suspension was a result of his third yellow card of the Europa league season, which he received in Galatasaray’s 2-1 loss to Ajax. Despite his impressive form in the continental tournament, Osimhen was forced to sit out the crucial encounter against AZ Alkmaar.

Apparently, the suspension of the Super Eagles striker proved costly for Galatasaray as they fell in Netherlands.

Tony Parrott, Jordy Clasie, David Wolfe and Sven Mijnans all scored for the Netherlands side, Roland Sallai got Galatasaray’s goal.

However, the return of Victor Osimhen from suspension is expected to provide a significant boost to the team’s chances.

Galatasaray supporters will be hoping that the Nigerian International can inspire the team to a remarkable comeback in the second leg, as they seek to overcome the 4-1 deficit and advance to the next round despite how tough the task seems.
