ABUJA – Claimants to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national secretary position, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu and Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye, on Sunday traded words over the postponement of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
While Udeh-Okoye, in a special announcement he signed on Sunday, postponed the NEC meeting, which was earlier scheduled for March 13, 2025, to May 15, 2025, Anyanwu, in his reaction, advised the party leaders, NEC members, Board of Trustees (BoT) and the party’s Governors’ Forum and the general public to disregard the purported letter as it emanates from a non-official and an unauthoritative source.
The postponement, according to the special announcement signed by Udeh-Okoye, was done after due consultation with leaders, stakeholders and relevant organs of the party including the BoT, the PDP Governors’ Forum and the PDP National Assembly caucus.
The announcement reads: “Distinguished members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) may recall that after due deliberation by party leaders, stakeholders and relevant organs of the party, the NEC meeting was scheduled to hold on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
“However, following emerging issues including the need to conclude our pending Zonal, State, L.G.A and Ward Congresses as well as to allow for further consultation to ensure a hitch-free conduct of the meeting especially with regard to other proposed activities of our party, the NWC after due consultation with leaders, stakeholders and relevant organs of the party including the Board of Trustees (BoT), the PDP Governors’ Forum and the PDP National Assembly caucus hereby wishes to notify distinguished members of NEC that the 99th NEC meeting earlier scheduled for Thursday, March 13, 2025, has been unavoidably shifted to Thursday, May 15, 2025.
“All NEC members should please note the change of date and be guided accordingly.
“The NWC sincerely regrets any inconveniences this change of date will cause distinguished members of NEC.”
Reacting, Anyanwu, in a statement said that Udeh-Okoye is not the national secretary of PDP and was never in any NWC meeting where he was mandated to issue such notice.
He warned that Udeh-Okoye should be aware that he is under a restraining order of the court of competent jurisdiction to stop parading himself as the national secretary of PDP pending the determination of the appeal lying before the apex court of the nation.
