Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has expressed his displeasure with the new Champions League format as his team begins title defence this week.
The Italian pointed out that the number of matches has significantly increased, adding that the Los Blancos will have to play two more games.
Ancelotti’s side will face VfB Stuttgart in the Champions League on Tuesday at home.
DAILY POST recalls that UEFA has made changes to the Champions League, Europa League, and the Europa Conference League this season.
The teams in the competitions will now play eight matches in the league stage, two more than before and Ancelotti believes it is too demanding.
“We’ve been looking for what we can do, but it’s not in our hands. The schedule is too demanding,” Ancelotti said (via Managing Madrid).
“A new competition is coming and we don’t know how it will turn out. It may or may not be more entertaining. But what is certain is that we have two more matches.”
