Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso believes Victor Boniface still has more tricks up his sleeve.
Boniface has established himself as Die Werkself’s leading marksman since his arrival at the club last summer.
The powerful striker scored the winning goal in the Bundesliga champions 1-0 victory over AC Milan in a UEFA Champions League fixture at the BayArena on Tuesday night.
It was the 25-year-old’s first-ever goal in the competition.
Despite his impressive displays for Leverkusen, Alonso has challenged Boniface to be more aggressive.
“He (Boniface) has many qualities that can make him as strong as Drogba. Drogba was strong and created problems for defenders, ” Alonso told Oma Sports.
“He needs to create his own qualities. He is good with the ball in short spaces; he likes to be around the box.
“Sometimes he needs to be around the box. Sometimes he needs to be more aggressive to attack the box, like today that he scored a goal that was disallowed.
“But it is a process; we need to help him. We push him and sometimes to take better decisions when the space is outside.”
