A high-level delegation from the United States Embassy in Nigeria has expressed strong interest in supporting President Bola Tinubu’s peace-building initiatives in the Middle Belt, during a courtesy visit to the Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement (North Central), Dr. Abiodun Essiet.
The delegation, led by Deputy Political Counsellor Dianna Palequin and including the Embassy’s Human Rights Officer and Political Officer Dave Young, met with Dr. Essiet on Friday to discuss the root causes of recurring conflicts and explore areas of collaboration to restore stability and social harmony.
The meeting focused on the President’s community engagement strategy for the North Central zone, which seeks to address farmer-herder clashes, ethnic tensions, and other drivers of violence through dialogue and grassroots interventions.
The U.S. officials commended the administration’s efforts and pledged to deepen partnership in conflict mitigation, human rights protection, and community-level peace programmes.
Dr. Essiet, in response, thanked the Embassy for its sustained interest and reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring every Nigerian lives in safety and peace.
She highlighted ongoing outreach programmes coordinated by her office aimed at fostering reconciliation and social cohesion across the Middle Belt states.
