U-20 World Cup: Argentina Coach Warns Players Against Flying Eagles Of Nigeria

Argentina’s U-20 coach, Diego Placente, has cautioned his players to be wary of the Flying Eagles of Nigeria’s counterattacking threat as both sides prepare for their knockout clash at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup on Wednesday night.

Naija News reports that the Flying Eagles will face Argentina at the Julio Martinez Pradanos National Stadium, with a place in the quarterfinals up for grabs.

Argentina, which topped Group D after winning all three of its group matches, head into the encounter full of confidence.

The Flying Eagles, on the other hand, reached the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams, but remain a side capable of upsetting any opponent, as they did when they eliminated Argentina in the 2023 edition.

Speaking to TyC Sports ahead of the game, Placente praised the Nigerians’ pace and warned his team to stay alert whenever they lose possession.

“Playing the same way, knowing that they are very dangerous on the counterattack,” he said. “Sometimes when you analyse, you are a little disorganised, but when a team is very long, it has its good and bad sides. You have more possession there, but every time you lose it, you suffer a lot more.”

Note that the clash between the Flying Eagles of Nigeria and the young Albiceleste of Argentina is scheduled to kick off at 8:30 p.m. tonight, October 8, 2025.
