LAFIA – Two lawmakers under the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Honourables Musa Saidu Gude (Uke/Karshi) and Onarigu Onah Kana (Udege/Loko) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State.
Hon Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House announced this during the House proceedings today in Lafia.
The Speaker appreciated the lawmakers for their wise decision to join the APC in the State.
The Speaker appealed to the ruling APC to give the defected members of the House automatic ticket ahead of 2027 general election.
“I want to appeal to the State APC to give the defected lawmakers soft landing via automatic ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
The Speaker while reading their defection letter said that they took the decision after due consultations with stakeholders and other people of their constituencies.
Jatau also said their defection to APC followed the development strides of Gov. Abdullahi Sule in the state.
It was reported that in their latter’s read separately by the Speaker at the hallowed chamber of the House Hon. Onarigu Kana sited crisis rocking the party at the National level as reason for his defection among other reasons while Hon. Gude said he was motivated by the party’s ideology, programs and policies.
Also speaking, Mr Yarius Dagusa, the State APC Secretary, said that the defection of the lawmakers was a welcome development.
He assured the lawmakers of equal privileges, rights and treatments in the party.
He cautioned APC Gubernatorial aspirants and other aspirants of the party against castigating each others in the social media.
The APC Secretary urged the aspirants to adhere strictly to the party constitution and electoral guidelines ahead of 2027 general elections.
Reacting, Hon. Musa Saidu Gude (Uke/Karshi) and Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana (Udege/Loko) said that their defections were due to the developmental strides of Gov. Abdullahi Sule.
They said that the defections were after due consultations with the people of their constituencies.
While appreciating their former party, SDP for giving them the platforms to win election, they assured of their continued commitment to provide purposeful leadership in the House and the State at large.
They also assured of their readiness to add value to the progress and development of APC and the state at large.
