Two men, Duku Pius and Ajumobi Abiodun, both 43 years old, were on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 20 kegs of diesel worth N660,000.
The defendants, of unknown addresses, were facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Feb. 6 at about 03:09 pm in Ifaki-Ekiti.
Bamikole alleged that the defendants stole 20 kegs of 30 litres containing diesel valued at N660,000 belonging to Immobilaire construction company limited.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the first defendant, Duku Pius, who is a staff of the company, perpetrated the act with the second defendant. According to him, the offence contravened Section 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefunke Anoma, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N20,000 with one surety each in like sum. She adjourned the case until March 3 for hearing.
