Trump Says Ukraine War Negotiations to Begin ‘Immediately’ After Call With Putin

1 week ago 30

Donald Trump has stated that negotiations to end the Ukraine war will commence “immediately” following a call with Vladimir Putin.

Donald Trump has announced that he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that both leaders agreed to begin negotiations to end the war in Ukraine “immediately.”

During the call, Trump and Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that both presidents also agreed to visit each other’s countries, though no timeline was provided for the trips.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office confirmed that he also spoke with Trump in a separate hour-long phone call. Details of their discussion were not disclosed.

The development has sparked mixed reactions. BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner noted that the fact Trump and Putin are engaging in discussions is a promising sign, but he described the news as “a bit of a cold shower for both Ukraine and NATO.”

At the White House, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is addressing questions from reporters, though it remains unclear whether she will comment on Trump’s conversation with Putin.

In a separate development, a US House committee held a hearing earlier today on Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) after Trump signed an executive order granting more power to the body, which is not an official government agency.
