Troops Rescue 74 NYSC Members From Possible Abduction in Borno

Soldiers from the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East Operation Hadin Kai on Tuesday night rescued 74 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, 36 males and 38 females from a potential abduction by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno State.

The dramatic rescue occurred around 9:05 p.m. after the corps members’ three buses broke down in a notorious kidnapping hotspot.

Military sources told Zagazola Makama that a patrol team was rapidly deployed following real-time detection of suspicious activity via closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitored by troops.

“Upon arrival, soldiers found the 74 corps members stranded due to vehicle mechanical failure. They were immediately evacuated to avert an imminent attack by terrorists active in the area,” the report said.

The corps members had earlier been escorted safely from Maiduguri to Damaturu by troops of 7 Division Garrison.

However, after reaching Damaturu, they proceeded to Hawul Local Government Area without notifying Sector 2 Headquarters or securing an armed escort.

The rescued youth corpers are currently sheltered at the Buratai military base, where arrangements are underway for their secure onward journey.
