Troops, NDLEA Arrest Two Fake Policemen With Cannabis In Taraba


Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in a joint operation with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have apprehended two individuals posing as police officers while transporting cannabis in Taraba State.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday by Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade. According to the statement, the suspects were intercepted in Wukari Local Government Area.

“Acting on credible intelligence, troops alongside NDLEA personnel intercepted and apprehended two fake policemen at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area,” the statement read.

According to the PUNCH, the suspects, who were dressed in mobile police uniforms, were caught conveying large quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis in two Toyota Hilux vehicles.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that none of the occupants are serving policemen. The cannabis-laden vehicles were traced to have been loaded from Akure, Ondo State, and were heading towards Adamawa State before interception,” the statement added.

According to Muhammad, the occupants of the second Hilux vehicle abandoned it and fled upon sighting the troops.

A total of 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered from the two vehicles. Both the suspects and the seized exhibits have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, commended the troops and NDLEA operatives for their coordination and resilience in the operation.

He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to making Taraba unsafe for criminals and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to enhance ongoing security operations across the state.
