Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have successfully dislodged multiple bandits’ hideouts in Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas of Taraba State.
Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, stated on Monday that the operations formed part of the ongoing Operation Lafiya Nakowa.
He explained that the mission was based on credible intelligence regarding bandit activities in Tarhembe, Tornyi, TY Farm, Kando in Takum, and several areas of Ussa LGA, where farmlands had reportedly been destroyed.

“On October 5, troops launched simultaneous clearance operations in the affected locations,” he said.
Lt. Muhammad further detailed, “Team A advanced into Tarhembe and Tornyi, where they engaged bandits. The troops’ superior firepower forced the criminals to flee into the forest. During exploitation, the troops recovered four rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, and one motorcycle.”
He added, “Team B conducted operations within Lissam in Ussa LGA, clearing several suspected bandits’ camps without encountering any resistance.”
Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their professionalism and resilience. He encouraged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to assist security agencies in restoring peace across the state.
The Commander emphasized that the operations had successfully disrupted criminal activities, limited the bandits’ freedom of movement, and reassured local communities of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.
