The Nigerian military has arrested a suspect after raiding an illegal arms manufacturing factory in Heipang District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
During the operation, troops also recovered a cache of illicit weapons, marking another step in efforts to curb the spread of illegal arms in the region.
Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the spokesman for the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Major Samson Zhakom, said the operation was based on credible intelligence.

According to him, troops stormed the factory on Wednesday where a weapon fabricator was arrested, while others managed to flee.

Zhakom explained that several dangerous items were recovered during the raid.
“A thorough search of the illegal factory led to the recovery of the following items: twelve assorted fabricated weapons and one fabricated pistol,” he said.
He added that troops also recovered nineteen rounds of PKT ammunition, twelve cartridges, ten rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, ten rounds of 9mm ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm (NATO), and one round of QJC ammunition.
According to him, other items included one smoke grenade, two fragmental jackets, one Motorola hand-held radio, one jack knife, and a bucket containing different medicines.
The military spokesman added that the arrested suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in custody for further investigation. He also assured that efforts were ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate.
“The arrested suspect and recovered items are in custody for further action.
“Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing members of the illegal weapon manufacturing syndicate,” Zhakom stated.
He further urged the public to continue supporting the military by providing timely and credible intelligence to aid ongoing efforts to mop up illicit arms in Plateau and surrounding areas.
