England manager Thomas Tuchel on Friday, announced his squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers, leaving out Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Instead, Tuchel rewarded uncapped duo Elliot Anderson and Djed Spence with their first senior call-ups.
Alexander-Arnold, who moved from Liverpool to Real Madrid in June, had been part of Tuchel’s previous squad but has endured a difficult week.

He was benched in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Real Oviedo on Sunday before learning of his omission from England’s latest selection. His exclusion comes just nine months before the 2026 World Cup.
Explaining his choice during the squad announcement on Friday, Tuchel praised Anderson’s rise since joining Nottingham Forest last year.
“He’s been one of the most consistent midfielders in the league,” Tuchel said.
“A regular player for Nottingham Forest and had a fantastic season. He deserves this opportunity, and we are excited to see him in the national setup.”
Tuchel also explained Spence’s inclusion, saying: “Djed has been outstanding for Tottenham.
“He has improved defensively and offers us something different going forward. This is the right moment to test him at the highest level.”
When asked about Alexander-Arnold’s omission, Tuchel responded: “Trent is an exceptional player, but at this moment, we are looking at balance and form.
“The door is never closed, and he knows he still has a big role to play for England.”
There were also recalls for Marcus Rashford and Adam Wharton, while veteran Jordan Henderson, 35, continues to feature.
However, big names like Kyle Walker, Phil Foden, and Ivan Toney miss out due to form or fitness. Injuries have also sidelined Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, and Levi Colwill.
