Transport firm promises cost-effective alternative in ride-hailing operations

4 hours ago 23

Along Transport investment in providing cost-effective and efficient services for Nigerians is yielding results as the new player in the e-ride-hailing industry continues to gain traction since its launch in August 2024.

This comes as the company has recorded over 5,000 downloads and completed more than 300 rides within its first few months of operation.

The company recently secured its operating license, marking a major milestone in its bid to provide safe, affordable transportation across the country for Nigerians.

Dolapo Obat, chief executive officer of Along Transport, said that unlike traditional ride-hailing services, Along Transport offers two distinct ride options such as the Along Mode which allows passengers to share rides with others heading in the same direction, reducing costs and promoting ride-sharing efficiency.

Obat said the other service option; the Drop Mode provides direct, point-to-point trips for users who prefer private rides, adding that its flexibility has contributed to its growing popularity, positioning the service as a strong competitor in Nigeria’s transport sector.

According him, passenger and driver security is a key priority for Along Transport as the company has implemented strict verification processes and real-time safety features to ensure a secure and reliable experience for all our users.

“To ensure accountability, all users must register with either their National Identification Number (NIN) or Bank Verification Number (BVN) before accessing the platform,” he said.

Obat further said the company also integrates a real-time emergency button within the app, allowing riders to contact law enforcement or the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) instantly if they feel unsafe during a trip.

“These measures come amid growing concerns over safety in Nigeria’s ride-hailing industry, where reports of fraud and security breaches have raised questions about passenger protection. By implementing stricter identification requirements and emergency response tools, Along Transport aims to reassure both riders and drivers,” he said.

Commenting further Obat said the launch of Along Transport comes at a time when Nigeria’s transport sector is grappling with economic pressures, and rising fuel prices which have significantly impacted commuters and ride-hailing operators, leading to increased fares across the industry.

He observed that Nigeria’s transportation sector is facing one of its toughest periods in recent history as the removal of fuel subsidies in mid-2023 led to a sharp increase in fuel prices, with petrol costs rising from ₦185 per litre to over ₦1000 per litre in many parts of the country.

The impact has been profound as public transport fares have surged, ride-hailing services have become more expensive, and commuters are struggling to afford daily transportation. Many drivers have also been forced to reconsider their work, as operational costs continue to rise.

Omonibo Endurance, the managing director of Along Transport said in response to the transportation challenges, Along Transport has positioned itself as a cost-effective alternative offering competitive pricing while maintaining service quality.

He said that by balancing affordability with security, the company hopes to ease the financial burden on both riders and drivers.

“As Along Transport continues to expand, it remains focused on innovation, safety, and affordability. With a customer-first approach, the company aims to reshape Nigeria’s e-hailing landscape and offer a sustainable solution for urban mobility,” Endurance added.
