ONITSHA – The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Zone 13, Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, has conferred the chieftaincy title of “Agunaechemba” on the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the zone, AIG Abayomi Peter Oladipo, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to security in Enugu and Anambra states.
The honour was bestowed during a high-profile Security Summit and Grand Reception organized by the zonal PCRC leadership led by Sir Vic Agubisi, popularly known as the Action Chairman, who also serves as the Senior Special Assistant to the National PCRC Chairman on Inter-State Projects (Southeast).
In his remarks, Sir Agubisi said the event was held at a time when crime rate in the zone has significantly reduced, noting that continued public enlightenment and community vigilance are essential to sustaining the atmosphere of peace.
He urged residents to remain alert and help security agencies identify criminal elements still hiding within communities.
Responding after receiving the honour, AIG Oladipo expressed gratitude to the organizers, describing the title as a profound motivation.
“Tradition is great. This honour will live long in my memory even after I leave the Nigerian Police Force. I never knew I could look this beautiful in traditional regalia,” he said, thanking the PCRC for the recognition.
The Chairman of Anambra North Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Apostle Benjamin Onukwube (Okeji), praised the AIG for strengthening security in the zone in partnership with the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
“Anambra is now calmer and safer than before. People move freely and that is why I am here to support this honour. I am also delighted with the award given to me as a ‘Distinguished Grand Citizen’,” he stated.
Business mogul and CEO of Ndu Vino Global Invest Ltd., High Chief Chimezie Okoye, lauded AIG Oladipo’s integrity, wisdom, and zero-tolerance for corruption.
Okoye, who received an Award of Excellence, also commended Sir Agubisi for his tireless leadership in Zone 13, describing his dedication as worthy of emulation.
Also speaking, Onowu B. U. Chineze of Nteje, who was among the honorees, thanked the PCRC Chairman for the recognition, saying it would inspire him to contribute more to community development.
The event also featured the honouring of the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Josephine Ihunwo, alongside about seven other police officers who received special awards for their outstanding contributions to security and public safety.
