Trade Commissioners’ Summit To Trickle Down Trade Relations To States, Says Ajomale-McWord

ABUJA – The Editor-in-Chief/Publisher of Globalafri Diplomat magazine Sòókò Deji Ajomale-McWord has said that the proposed Trade Commissioners Summit will trickle down trade relations to all the states of the Federation.

Globalafri Diplomat magazine, the foremost publication in global Africa’s diplomatic sphere revealed this following the release of its first ever trade relations edition featuring the Minister of Industry, Trade & Investments, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole on it’s cover.

According to the organiser in a statement on Thursday, the gathering scheduled for December 2nd, 2025 will be the convention of commissioners of commerce/trade & investments from Nigerian states providing an avenue for engaging economic counselors/honorary consuls of embassies and bilateral chambers of commerce, investors, trade finance firms, lead arrangers and top CEOs, with the ultimate objective of exploring trade and investments opportunities in Nigerian states, while economic counselors also leverage the platform to promote opportunities in their countries of origin.

“The Trade Commissioners Summit & Exhibition which will hold on the 2nd of December in Lagos, Nigeria is the conversational convergence and side event to The Trade Relations Cup™️—a golf tournament that celebrates international trade and commercial exchanges among nations of the world.”

According to Ajomale-McWord, the purpose of the event will deepen the economic viability of Nigerian states by creating a platform for exhibition of their economic offerings before international community.

According to him; “it is true that ambassadors/consul generals and economic counselors do pay courtesy visits to states, but when these states are brought together under one roof for them to engage they’d find it very helpful in achieving much more their primary mandate of economic diplomacy.”

He explained that the summit will focus on three major areas; including economic free zones, seaports and critical minerals.

Sòókò Deji said that one of the most profusely debated issues is seaports and economic viability of different regions of the country.

“This summit will help us unpack the truths and myths around this essential economic development factor.

“Though not fully quantified, Nigeria holds substantial, reserves of rare earth minerals, particularly monazite. These minerals, essential for green and advanced technologies, are found in multiple states across the country and are a key part of Nigeria’s strategy to diversify its economy away from oil.”

“The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has estimated Nigeria’s
monazite ore reserves at approximately six million tons. Other rear earth minerals in significant deposits under the soil of Nigerian states are Columbite-Tantalite, Zircon, Ilmenite, Rutile, Bauxite etc.”

The event is partnered by Nigeria-America Chamber of Commerce, Franco-Nigeria Chamber of Commerce, Lekki Free Zone, European Business Chamber Nigeria and Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade & Investments, he stated.
