Turkish Süper Lig side Trabzonspor have completed the loan signing of Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana, with all documents now signed and the deal sealed, according to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Cameroonian international, 29, will join Trabzonspor on a straight loan, with details still to be confirmed as of press time.
The move comes as a surprise given Onana’s status as Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper since his arrival from Inter Milan in 2023, but it allows him to seek regular playing time amid potential squad changes at Old Trafford.
United had completed the signing of 22-year-old Belgian goalkeeper, Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day, September 1, for £18.2 million plus add-ons.
It was understood that Ruben Amorim’s side, which already had Onana, Altay Bayindir, and Tom Heaton on its roster, would entertain transfer requests for one of the goalies, especially as windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia remained open until September 11 and 10, respectively.
Romano first reported a verbal agreement between the clubs on September 6, noting that the final decision rested with Onana.
A day later, Onana had reportedly agreed to the move, with contracts signed on the player’s side and awaiting Trabzonspor’s counter-approval.
In a Facebook post on Monday afternoon, Romano said, “: André Onana to Trabzonspor, deal has been SIGNED RIGHT NOW.”
