The presidency on Monday, confirmed the meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the newly-appointed service chiefs.
According to a statement from the presidency, the discussions focused on national security priorities and strategic defence coordination.
As earlier reported by Naija News, President Tinubu met with the new service chiefs at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
The statement from the presidency confirmed that the meeting was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye.
Monday’s meeting represents the President’s first official engagement with the new military chiefs who came into office following the dismissal of the previous service chiefs.
The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has confirmed that he is under pressure from political figures to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at an event held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Jos over the weekend, the governor, however, dismissed the possibility of switching parties, insisting that only divine authority and the will of the electorate could determine his political future.
His comments come weeks after APC stakeholders in Plateau State dismissed speculations that the governor was planning to join their ranks.
At a recent meeting in Jos, party leaders unanimously voted against a motion proposing Mutfwang’s possible defection.
The motion, moved by Festus Fuanter, a former deputy national secretary of the APC, was rejected through a voice vote.
“We don’t want anybody coming to our party. You do your thing, and we’ll do ours,” Fuanter declared, adding that the APC was confident of its strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting, Mutfwang described the rejection as unnecessary, claiming that many APC members would actually welcome him into their fold.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the federal government, led by President Bola Tinubu, of lying about the actual prices of food in the Nigerian market.
The ADC alleged that the government is manipulating the figures about the actual prices of food items and weaponizing hunger.
It submitted that the claim of increased local production by the government is false, arguing that many farmers, especially in the northern part of the country, have been displaced by banditry, while those that remained active could not afford the skyrocketing cost of fertilisers and other critical inputs.
The party, in a statement on Monday, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, and made available to Naija News, questioned the rationale behind hoarding imported food while millions go hungry, calling it a deliberate weaponisation of poverty for political gains.
The statement said the reported drop in the price of food items is artificial and sponsored government propaganda.
The ADC urged a complete overhaul of the country’s agricultural strategy, calling for policies that protect local production, promote food price stability, protect the lives of farmers, and pursue long-term food sovereignty.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji has officially emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State ahead of the June 20, 2026, election.
Naija News reports that Oyebanji, who was the sole contender, was unanimously affirmed by 885 delegates, drawn from all 177 wards of the state, in line with the party’s internal guidelines and the Electoral Act 2022.
His emergence followed the withdrawal of Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo and the disqualification of Kayode Ojo and Abimbola Olajumoke, who failed to meet the party’s requirements.
Omolayo, who formally stepped down during the governorship primary at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti, said her decision was driven by Oyebanji’s performance and the need to sustain his administration’s developmental strides.
Former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has expressed dissatisfaction over the failure to purchase a form to contest for the National Chairman position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Naija News reports that Lamido had earlier, in a post on his verified Facebook page, declared his intention to contest for the PDP chairmanship position.
The former Governor, who is also one of the PDP’s founding members, said his commitment to democracy and resolve to restore the major opposition in the country to its former status are unstoppable.
He noted that his decision to contest was driven by the need to prepare the party for future elections.
However, Lamido was unable to secure the form at the PDP National Headquarters on Monday.
Speaking with journalists regarding the development, the former Foreign Affairs Minister declared that he was prepared to contest for the party’s chairmanship at the November 15th and 16th elective National Convention, slated for Ibadan, Oyo State.
Lamido further vowed to head to the court if he failed to get the form.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved the admission of 85 underage candidates who will be below 16 years by September 2025, after what it described as a “rigorous and comprehensive screening” under its exceptional admission policy.
The Board’s Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, said the decision was taken in line with global best practices, where underage admissions are treated as rare exceptions rather than the norm.
“The 85 candidates were adjudged qualified following meticulous evaluation and have been duly notified to proceed to their respective institutions to complete the admission process and print their individual JAMB admission letters,” Benjamin said.
In the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), 2,031,133 candidates applied for admission. Out of these, 41,027 sought consideration under the underage category.
JAMB explained that 599 of those scored at least 80 per cent in the UTME and were subjected to further scrutiny, including verification of school certificates and post-UTME performance.
At the end of the process, 182 candidates were shortlisted for the final stage of interviews and documentation, but only 85 met all requirements and were cleared.
Destiny Daniels, the younger sister of popular actress Regina Daniels, has reacted to ongoing rumours that the actress has reunited with her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.
Naija News reports that the rumours began after a video showing Regina aboard a private jet with friends and family went viral on social media on Saturday.
Many users speculated that the trip signaled a reconciliation between the couple, who were believed to have separated following recent allegations of domestic issues.
In response, Destiny took to her Instagram Story to dismiss the claims.
She shared a photo of her sister’s scars and explained that Regina personally paid for the private jet, not Nwoko.
Her post hinted that Regina was still recovering from the challenges she faced in the marriage and had not gone back to her husband.
Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has reacted to the wave of criticism she faced after undergoing the second phase of her cosmetic surgery.
Naija News reports that the actress took to her Instagram story to address those mocking her transformation.
The mother of three said many were unhappy that she successfully completed the procedure and was in good health.
Uche, who had previously shared updates about her makeover journey, made it clear that she was proud of her new look and would not be swayed by negative opinions.
She urged her critics to focus on their families instead of spreading hate online.
The movie star further stated that she was minding her own business and promoting the hospital that handled her procedure, saying that people angry about her endorsement deals should find their own opportunities.
Italian Serie A giants, Juventus have dismissed head coach Igor Tudor following a miserable run of form that has left the club winless in eight straight matches.
The Italian side made the announcement on Monday, confirming that reserve team coach Massimiliano Brambilla will temporarily take charge of the first team ahead of Wednesday’s Serie A clash with Udinese.
In a statement released by the club, Juventus said: “Juventus Football Club today announced that Igor Tudor is no longer the head coach of the first team. His coaching staff members Ivan Javorčić, Tomislav Rogić, and Riccardo Lanić also left their positions simultaneously.”
The club thanked the Croatian and his backroom staff for their “professionalism and dedication over the past few months,” adding that they wished them success in their future endeavours.
Tudor’s departure comes in the wake of Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Lazio, which extended Juventus’ winless streak to eight games and deepened frustration among fans.
The result also marked the team’s third straight loss across all competitions, leaving them eighth in Serie A and struggling to stay afloat in the Champions League group stage, where they sit 25th.
The 46-year-old took over from Thiago Motta in March and managed 24 games, collecting 10 wins, eight draws, and six losses. His only notable highlight came early in the season when Juventus beat Inter Milan 1-0 on September 13, their most recent victory.
Super Falcons star Michelle Alozie has earned a spot among the finalists for the 2025 FIFPRO Women’s World 11, standing tall as the only Nigerian to make the global shortlist.
Naija News reports that none of Nigeria’s male football stars, including Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, made the men’s shortlist this year, making Michelle Alozie’s recognition even more remarkable.
The Houston Dash defender has been a key figure in the NWSL this season, registering one goal in 18 appearances. Her lone strike came away from home, bringing her tally to 0.15 goals per 90 minutes. While her numbers may not dazzle, Alozie’s tireless defending and leadership have clearly caught the attention of football watchers worldwide.
Her nomination puts her in elite company alongside world-class names such as Spain’s Aitana Bonmati, Alexia Putellas, and England’s Mary Earps.
In the defenders’ category, Alozie joins top talents like Lucy Bronze, Millie Bright, Leah Williamson, Alex Greenwood, and Olga Carmona.
