Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has opened up about her long-standing dispute with fellow artist Seyi Shay, offering her perspective on the widely publicized salon incident that went viral several years ago.
During an interview on Off Air with Gbemi O and Toolz, posted on Instagram on Sunday, the Somebody’s Son singer explained that the fallout between her and Seyi Shay originated from a diss track and claims that she had attempted to hinder opportunities for other female artists.
However, Tiwa denied the accusations, stressing that she has always championed and supported women in the music industry.

“If you do something to me, I will let you know. I don’t have to let you know online. Like the whole shade thing, I’m not going to pretend like you and I are cool in a salon when you did a diss track,” she said.
The singer also shared that she was surprised upon hearing about the supposed diss and allegations that she had tried to “block bags” for fellow artists, including Seyi Shay and Victoria Kimani.
“That was painful, and I didn’t know where it was coming from. Till today, maybe I need to have a conversation with Shay.
“I heard that they thought I blocked their bag. How? If you’ve heard from anybody that I tried to block your bag, mention the person so I can address it.
“I would never do that — I’m so pro-women,” Tiwa said.
She also recounted that, contrary to the allegations, she had actually lost a major endorsement deal to Seyi Shay years ago while she was pregnant with her son, Jamil.
“When I got pregnant and had Jamil, I was taken off a Pepsi campaign, Longer Throat, and Shay was booked on it.
“Go back and check it, Shay was a brand ambassador, I wasn’t.
“I was taken off because I couldn’t snap back in time. So how am I stopping other people’s bag? I wasn’t even mad. I got in the gym and got my body back,” she added.
The 2021 salon confrontation between the two singers quickly became one of the year’s most viral celebrity moments, as videos emerged showing Tiwa Savage confronting Seyi Shay over their tense relationship.
Although Seyi Shay had previously stated that she attempted to reconcile, Tiwa’s recent comments indicate that the friction between the two artists may have arisen from deeper industry misunderstandings and circulating rumors.
Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay have maintained a tense relationship since 2017, when Seyi allegedly took a jab at Tiwa in her verse during Kiss Daniel’s viral ‘Fvck You’ Challenge, sparking years of subtle rivalry and public drama.
