Tinubu’s 2027 Chances Intact Despite Rivers Emergency Rule – Senator Arise

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Senator Ayodele Arise, has said that the emergency rule declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu will not affect his chances of re-election in 2027.

Senator Arise, who represented Ekiti North Senatorial District between 2007 and 2011, made the remark on Sunday, while addressing journalists in Abuja.

He explained that the six-month emergency rule was a necessary intervention to prevent Rivers from descending into chaos.

“By and large, we have to thank Mr. President for taking the decision he took.

“The situation in Rivers State at the time was almost getting out of hand.

“The intervention was necessary to restore order and safeguard critical national assets,” he said.

The APC stalwart stressed that Rivers State remains strategic to Nigeria’s economy, especially because of its oil and gas resources, adding that peace in the state was non-negotiable.

“Rivers is too important to the stability of Nigeria’s economy.

“No President would fold his hands and watch it slip into anarchy,” Arise noted.

Dismissing fears that the measure might reduce Tinubu’s popularity in Rivers, he said: “Those who think this decision will weaken President Tinubu politically are mistaken.

“Nigerians value security, and the people of Rivers will come to appreciate that this step saved their state.”

He also pointed out that Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have crucial roles to play in sustaining peace ahead of 2027.

“Both leaders must put aside personal differences and work for stability.

“Their influence at the grassroots cannot be ignored,” he added.
