From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja
President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to retired General Lucky Eluonye Irabor on his 60th birthday, on Sunday, October 5.
Irabor served as Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff during the critical period of the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East and is a native of Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State.
In a statement signed by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised General Irabor’s patriotic service and leadership, describing him as “a true war commander and defender.”
The President remarked, “He was courageous. General Irabor remains one of the most remarkable soldiers this country has ever produced.”
The President also commended General Irabor’s recently launched book on Boko Haram, which debuted last Friday, October 3, 2025, in Abuja. He noted the book’s potential to aid national understanding and response to Boko Haram and similar security threats in Nigeria.
At the book launch, Irabor stressed that the publication was intended for soul-searching rather than as an indictment of any individual.
President Tinubu wished General Irabor many more years of good health and invaluable service to the nation.
