LAGOS – The South-West Gover­nors’ Forum has com­mended President Bola Tinubu for the economic stability and improve­ment recorded across the nation, particularly for the sustained supply and distribution of petroleum products and the stabilisa­tion of the exchange rate.

Chairman South-West Governors’ Forum and Lagos State governor, Ba­bajide Sanwo-Olu, gave the commendation in a communique at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday, after a closed-door meeting to discuss is­sues, which included food security, fostering econom­ic growth and developmen­tal issues affecting their states.

Present at the meet­ing hosted by Sanwo-Olu, were Governors Ademola Adeleke of Osun, Biodun Oyebanjo of Ekiti, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Lucky Ayedatiwa of Ondo and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun.

The forum urged the citizens to support the president and improve the overall well-being of all Nigerians

On the student loan, the Forum applauded the Federal Government for the successful implemen­tation of the loan schemes under the Nigerian Edu­cation Loan Fund, which has helped South-West students in tertiary insti­tutions.

The South-West Gover­nors’ Forum, therefore, “encouraged all eligible students in the region to take advantage of this scheme.”

According to the Fo­rum’s chairman, the gov­ernors also offered a con­gratulatory message to the governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on his victory in last Ondo gov­ernorship election, which held on November 16, 2024.

On security, the Forum commended South-West governors for maintain­ing peace throughout the region, especially during the last festive period.

They, therefore, called on all states to continue to foster peaceful coexistence within all South-West states.

While strongly con­demning any threats to the region’s security, the Gov­ernors’ Forum, therefore, “encouraged collaboration with the police force and lo­cal security forces, even as it also committed to taking necessary actions to count­er any form of threat in the region.”

On the establishment of a joint security surveil­lance, the Forum “agreed to appoint special advis­ers on security in each state and establish a joint surveillance monitoring team, which will oversee and coordinate security efforts in the region, and as part of the resolution, the Forum has commit­ted to deploying advanced technology, including area surveillance system that will enhance security op­erations.”

Sanwo-Olu said that additionally, the Forum resolved to strengthen in­telligence-gathering and fostering collaboration between state security operatives, local security network and the federal enforcement authorities.

On the establishment of the South-West Devel­opment Commission, the Governors’ Forum com­mended the Federal Gov­ernment and the National Assembly for establish­ing the South-West De­velopment Commission, and collectively agreed to situate the headquarters of the commission when it gets signed in Ibadan, within the Cocoa House premises.

On Oodua Investment, Sanwo-Olu said that the Governors’ Forum re­ceived presentation and thereafter acknowledged the efforts of the Oodua Investment Company Ltd, it’s efficiently managed assets in the South-West region particularly over the last five years.

The Forum also com­mended the management of the company on the ongoing developments, especially on the ongoing redevelopment of Premier Hotel in Ibadan and the proposed redevelopment of the Lagos Airport Hotel in Lagos.
