Kenneth Okonkwo Dumps Abure-led Labour Party

A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), Kenneth Okonkwo, on Tuesday charged President Bola Tinubu to apologise to the minors who were arraigned among #EndBadGovernance protesters.

Okonkwo made this call in an interview with Arise Television.

Some protesters were arrested and arraigned in court earlier in the week, after the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest which lasted from August 1-10.

A handful of the suspects arraigned were minors, and the situation sparked outrage.

The president, on Monday directed the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and minister of justice, Lateef Fagbemi, to withdraw the charges against the minors.

A federal high court in Abuja earlier today struck out the suit against 119 persons, who allegedly participated in the protest.

The minors were released and hosted by Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the State House.

Speaking on the situation, Okonkwo said the minors must be compensated and described the charges against them and the processes of their prosecution as wrong.

He said, “The president has to apologise to those children and compensate them adequately. It was very wrong. The charges were wrong.

“The process of detaining them was wrong. The process of arraigning them was wrong. They were just malnourished, maltreated, and mistreated in that whole process. The police should be apologising to them.”
