Tinubu Launches $1B Port Overhaul for Apapa, Tincan, Warri, Calabar, Port Harcourt

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has greenlit a $1 billion initiative to revamp Nigeria’s key ports—Apapa, Tincan Island, Warri, Calabar, and Port Harcourt, aiming to transform the nation’s maritime infrastructure.

Announced by Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Managing Director Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho at the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) World Ports Conference in Kobe, Japan, the project is set to begin in Q1 2026.

It will follow comprehensive engineering, environmental, and design studies, with completion targeted within 48 months.

The overhaul aligns with Tinubu’s vision to modernize Nigeria’s seaports, enhance trade competitiveness, and attract global investment, supporting his goal of a $1 trillion economy.

Dantsoho praised Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola for driving the initiative, noting the maritime sector’s critical role in economic growth.

This historic port transformation is already drawing significant investor interest, positioning Nigeria as a rising force in global logistics.
