President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday hosted the first meeting of the national caucus of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC, ahead of the planned National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, on Wednesday, in Abuja.
BusinessDay checks show that this is the party’s first NEC meeting in 18 months since the inception of the current administration.
The meeting which is currently taking place at the Conference Centre of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, is expected to last into the night, according to party sources as it is the first that will be used to straighten issues bothering the party.

The party caucus consists of various stakeholders of the party, including past Presidents, Vice Presidents and serving President and also Vice President.
The meeting is also being attended by Governors elected under the party’s platform, as well key officers of the national assembly and other stakeholders.
Ajibola Bashir, the party’s National Secretary, had in a notice notice, revealed that the Caucus meeting is billed to hold at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa by 6 pm on Tuesday, while the NEC meeting will take place at the party’s national secretariat on Wednesday in Abuja.
BusinessDay had gathered that despite the notice, many of the party members were initially skeptical, following previous last minute cancellations
According to Bashiru, “Notice is hereby given for the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party. Note that the National Executive Committee (NEC) is one of the organs of the Party under Article 11 of the party’s constitution.”

BusinessDay also gathered that the last NEC meeting was on August 3, 2023 when Abdullahi Adamu, the former National chairman and Iyiola Omisore, the then National Secretary were forced to resign their positions, and which ushered in Abdulahi Ganduje and Basiru, as the National Chairman and Secretary respectively.
