Tinubu did Nigeria a great service with Marwa’s reappointment as NDLEA chairman – Gov. Dapo Abiodun

Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state, has applauded
President Bola Tinubu for renewing the appointment of Buba Marwa as chairman of
the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for another five-year term.

In a statement issued on Friday by Kayode Akinmade, his
spokesperson, Abiodun described Marwa’s reappointment as a well-deserved
endorsement of competence, integrity, patriotism and excellence in public
service.

Abiodun, who is the chairman of the Southern Governors’
Forum, said the tenure extension for Marwa affirms Tinubu’s commitment to
rewarding public officials who demonstrate exceptional performance in their
duties.

He noted that Marwa, first appointed in January 2021 by the
late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has recorded outstanding achievements
that justify the confidence reposed in him.

Before assuming office as NDLEA chairman, Marwa had served
as chairman of the presidential advisory committee for the elimination of drug
abuse between 2018 and 2020.

Highlighting Marwa’s record at the agency, Abiodun cited
several achievements, including the arrest of more than 73,000 drug traffickers
and barons, the seizure of over 15 million kilogrammes of illicit substances,
and the conviction of more than 12,000 offenders.

He added that the NDLEA, under Marwa’s leadership, has also
provided counselling and rehabilitation for over 8,200 drug users through
various programmes.

“By all means, General Marwa’s reappointment as NDLEA boss
is great news for the safety and security of Nigeria and for safeguarding the
country’s future from the destructive effects of narcotics,” Abiodun said.

“President Tinubu has done Nigeria a great service with this
reappointment.”

The governor praised Marwa for initiating nationwide
campaigns against drug abuse, deepening international cooperation, and
transforming the NDLEA into a model institution known for accountability and
effective service delivery.

He extended his felicitations to the NDLEA chairman and
urged him to sustain the momentum in the fight against drug abuse and
trafficking.
