The Federal Government has commenced the process for the appointment of five new Permanent Secretaries in the federal civil service, following the approval of President Bola Tinubu.

The announcement was made on Sunday by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack.

It was conveyed through a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs Eno Olotu.

According to Walson-Jack, the appointments will fill two vacancies created by the recent retirement of Permanent Secretaries from Imo State and the Federal Capital Territory.

She added that three zonal vacancies in the North-Central, North-East, and South-East also emerged, arising from the creation of new ministries.

She stressed that the exercise is anchored on transparency, credibility, and merit, in line with the administration’s commitment to good governance.

“Only qualified officers on Grade Level 17, who have served at least two years on the grade and have been cleared as not facing disciplinary action, are eligible,” she explained.

She noted that the process began with the screening of eligible officers by a committee of Permanent Secretaries.

The exercise, she explained, was closely monitored by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Department of State Services (DSS).

“The written examination will hold today, September 15, at a Federal Government facility, while successful candidates will proceed to an ICT proficiency test on September 17.

“The final stage, an oral interview, will be conducted on September 19 by a panel of serving and retired Permanent Secretaries, former Heads of Service, and representatives from the private sector,” Walson-Jack said.

She further assured that anti-corruption agencies will also observe the process, adding: “The final recommendations will be submitted to the President for approval.”
