The Social Media Awareness and Promotion Deployment Association (SMAPDA) recently organized a two days workshop for its members from 19 northern states, on  Friday and Saturday, at Bristol Hotel, Kano

The goal was to educate young northerners on utilizing TikTok effectively.

Nastura Ashir, chairman of the Northern states’ committee of Associations, emphasized TikTok’s potential, stating that it is one of the most widely used social media platforms globally, especially among young people.

He highlighted the need for the government to engage with TikTok users, as they can contribute to national development without relying on the government.

Sharfudden Bature, secretary of the association, noted that while TikTok has become popular in Northern Nigeria, many users aren’t utilizing it optimally.

He stated that the association aims to bring users together, educate them, and connect them with organizations and government agencies that can support them.

Sharfudden Bature, the secretary of the association, stated that God has blessed the North with diverse talents, which they showcase on TikTok.

However, he noted that some users are not utilizing the platform optimally. “These youths are not benefiting from the platform as they should. Sometimes, they even promote immorality and disregard for culture and religion. That’s why we established this TikTok organization, to bring them together, educate them, and connect them with organizations and government agencies that can support them,” he said.

According to Bature, if these youths acquire knowledge, they can use TikTok for awareness, business, cultural development, and religious purposes. “We want this group to become a powerful tool for promoting moral values and good conduct.”

Zahra’u Sa’idu Mustapha, a member of the group, also known as Mrs Zahra, a popular TikTok comedian, said that attending the meeting was beneficial, as she met many people she hadn’t known before.

“We will give our leaders the necessary support, because if we work together, we can achieve great things,” she said.

A survey revealed that Nigerians are among the most active TikTok users, with over 23 million youth and 15 million people in 19 northern states using the platform.
