Three supermarket cash officers were on Friday docked in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N2.5 million.
The police charged Aderibigbe Ayomide, 20; Ajayi Peace, 23; and Awe Ajoke, 24, with conspiracy and theft.
The prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Feb. 10 at about 8a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendants, who were cash officers at CECI Supermarket, Adebayo Area in Ado-Ekiti, stole N2.5 million belonging to the supermarket.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 421 and 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti 2021.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Busuyi Ayorinde, prayed the court to grant his clients bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N50,000 each with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until March 14 for hearing.
