Three Bodies Pulled Out From Building Collapse In Yaba, Four Rescued


 

Three bodies have been confirmed dead while four others were rescued following the collapse of a three-storey building under construction in Yaba, Lagos.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday, at No. 333 Borno Street, Alagomeji, trapping several persons beneath the rubble.

Acting Head of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, Mrs. Ibitayo Adenike, confirmed the development in Lagos on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

She disclosed that another body was recovered in the early hours of the day, bringing the total number of victims to seven.

According to her, “The recovery of the body from the rubble on Sunday brings the total figure to three dead and four rescued.

“Search and rescue operations are still ongoing. We will not stop until we are certain that no victim remains trapped.”

Emergency responders including officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service have been deployed to the site.

Also present are personnel from the Lagos State Building Control Agency, the Nigeria Police Force, and other relevant agencies assisting with rescue operations.

The General Manager of LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, also spoke at the scene.

He said, “Our priority is to save lives, and we are working round the clock with other agencies to clear the debris.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm and allow us to do our job.”

Adenike noted that the swift intervention of responders ensured that some lives were saved, while efforts continue to prevent further tragedy.

She appealed to residents in the area to cooperate with rescue officials and avoid obstructing operations.

Meanwhile, a resident of the area, Mr. Chuka Eze, lamented the frequent cases of building collapse in Lagos.

He said, “We are worried because this is not the first time we are hearing such news.

“The authorities must take stronger action against substandard buildings.”
