Real Madrid star Aurélien Tchouaméni has come to the defence of Barcelona’s teenage prodigy, Lamine Yamal, following the controversy that erupted after Sunday’s heated El Clásico clash at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The 18-year-old forward found himself in the spotlight after making comments critical of Real Madrid earlier last week, remarks that drew an angry response from several Los Blancos players following Barcelona’s 2-1 defeat.
Yamal draws backlash from Madrid stars
After the final whistle, Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal, Thibaut Courtois, and Vinícius Jr. were all quick to voice their frustration at the young Spaniard’s earlier remarks.
Their reactions talks in the Spanish media over whether Yamal’s comments showed arrogance or confidence.

Despite the criticism, the Barcelona winger has earned praise for his fearlessness and self-belief, characteristics that have already made him a key figure in Hansi Flick’s setup at just 18.
‘I like that’ – Tchouaméni backs Yamal’s Spirit
While some of his teammates took offence, Tchouaméni viewed Yamal’s remarks differently. Speaking to reporters post-match, the French international said he admired the youngster’s competitive edge.
“I like that,” Tchouaméni said, as quoted by Diario Sport. “At the end of the game, we saw a bit of tension between players.
“It helps us compete against Barça. When I was little, I saw that too. Don’t worry we won the game, got the three points, and will keep going.”
‘It’s just football’ – & no Hard feelings
Pressed for a stronger reaction, Tchouaméni remained composed and refused to escalate the matter.
“Personally, I like it. They’re ||just words, no bad |intentions,” he continued. “That determination helps everyone perform better. If Lamine wants to talk, that’s fine, in the end, the match is decided on the field. Today we won, and we move forward.”
