There’s no Christian genocide in Nigeria


Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has clarified that the country is not experiencing a Christian genocide, stressing that the real challenge is terrorism, which affects all Nigerians regardless of religion.

His statement comes amid U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks expressing concern over alleged attacks on Christians in Nigeria, including a threat of invasion if the situation is not addressed. 

Addressing concerns about religious persecution, Oluyede said:

“We don’t have issue of Christian genocide in Nigeria. What we have is terrorism affecting Nigerians and we have been doing the best to curtail it.”

He emphasised that violent attacks target citizens across all faiths and that the military is working tirelessly to restore security nationwide.

The Defence Chief also revealed that President Bola Tinubu has recalibrated the military, injecting fresh ideas, energy, and improved strategies to strengthen the fight against insecurity.

“The President’s intervention aims to protect all Nigerians and ensure our strategies are effective in addressing the threat of terrorism,” Oluyede added.

Oluyede’s statement underlines that Nigeria’s security issues are not about a religious war but a nationwide fight against terrorism.

Highlighting military continues to adjust and implement new measures to safeguard citizens, protect vulnerable communities, and ensure peace across the country, demonstrating a commitment to national unity and security for all Nigerians.
