Kwara terror attacks force mass village exodus
The latest assault happened in the early hours of Tuesday, September 23, when over 40 armed men stormed Motokun village on motorcycles, shooting sporadically and leaving villagers scampering into the bush.
Sources confirmed that at least eight villagers were kidnapped in Motokun, while another set of gunmen simultaneously attacked Fanagun village in Tsaragi Emirate, where three Fulani men and their cattle were abducted.
A video made available to Legit.ng by community source shows the residents relocating to Ilorin and other more secured towns to avoid being the next victims of terror attacks.
The resident explained:
“People are leaving their homes to relocate back to Ilorin and others. They have parked the little belongings and are now finding a means to leave the towns. This was because of the attacks on Tuesday morning where a pregnant woman was killed and many people including children were abducted. The majority of these people could not even sleep in their houses last night because of fear of attack.”

The latest wave of abductions also comes amid rising anger against traditional rulers in the affected areas.
On Monday, youths accused the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, of unleashing political thugs and palace-backed security operatives to stop peaceful protests against the worsening insecurity.

Community members insist that despite repeated calls for protection, security operatives are rarely present during attacks. This allowed terrorists to operate freely for hours.
Earlier this month, Legit.ng also reported how a group of armed terrorists abducted the wife and daughter of a chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress in Kwara, Alhaji Mohammed Swasun.
Swasun is the current chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Patigi LGA.
The chairman’s wife is identified as Fatima while his daughter is named as Amina.
Legit.ng gathered that Swasun’s daughter and wife were abducted during the terrorists’ invasion of Sakpefu community in the Lade district of Patigi Local Government Area, Kwara state.
Legit.ng had also reported how the terrorists killed a farmer, Ibrahim Abubakar at Chikanda community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Ibrahim, who sustained a gunshot wound when armed men attacked his farmland on August 4, 2025, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, August 24, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
His death comes just weeks after the same incident in which his elder brother, Alhaji Issah Abubakar, was kidnapped and later released on August 9 after the family paid an undisclosed ransom.
Speaking to Legit.ng, a family source described the incident as “a double tragedy.”
“We lost Ibrahim after struggling for weeks to keep him alive. The family is devastated because while we were still trying to recover from Issah’s kidnap, now we have lost his younger brother. It is heartbreaking,” the source said.
Bandits abduct seven residents
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that in a fresh attack in the northern part of Kwara State, bandits abducted several residents of the state despite the recent arrest of a dreaded terrorist leader, Mahmud Mohammed Usman.
Suspected bandits killed a prominent community member in Lade, Patigi LGA of Kwara state, and abducted others in another major community in the state.
Residents are fleeing their homes due to repeated bandit attacks, while community leaders express fear and anger over the continued insecurity.
