No fewer than 10 people were abducted by terrorists in Maru town, the headquarters of Maru local government area of Zamfara state.
Reports indicated that the bandits besieged the town at around 2:00am Wednesday night in their large number.
Residents in the area told our correspondent via telephone interview that the bandits took several hours operating in the town.
“I want to inform you that my village, Maru in Zamfara state, was attacked by armed bandits last night around 2:00 am. Tragically, my father-in-law, who serves as the Chief Imam of the Maru Central Mosque, Alhaji Salisu Suleman, along with his two wives and seven children have been abducted,” one of the residents, who pleaded anonymity said.
He stated further that during the attack, the terrorists began house- to- house operation and made away with animals and valuable items worth millions of naira.
He urged federal and Zamfara state governments to come to their assistance by providing adequate security personnel to safeguard the community from the incessant attacks by the dreaded terrorists.
“I am calling on the Authorities to deploy more security personnel to our town in order to protect our lives from these dreaded terrorists,” he said.
Our correspondent gathered that the Maru community have blocked the major highway linking to Sokoto Thursday morning after the incident .
Blueprint reports that Maru town, the headquarters of Maru local government in Zamfara state have been facing resurgence of attacks by the terrorists for over three months and over 60 people have been kidnapped.
Efforts to reach the state police command spokesman, ASP Yazid Abubakar by our correspondent failed as all his lines were not reachable as the time of filling this report.
