Temu, the global value-for-money shopping platform, is marking 100 days in Nigeria with a growing fan base and a strong foothold in the burgeoning Nigerian e-commerce market. Since its launch last November, Temu has captivated Nigerian consumers with its wide range of high-quality products at incredibly affordable prices.
This success aligns with the rapid growth of Nigeria’s e-commerce sector, projected to reach US$7.43 billion in 2025, with user numbers expected to surge to 28.6 million by 2029.
Temu’s direct-from-factory model, which eliminates middleman costs, has been a key driver of its popularity. Consumers like Precious Ntuko, a Lagos-based digital creator, have embraced the platform, praising its wide selection and competitive pricing. “Temu has nice stuff,” Ntuko shared on social media, reflecting the growing confidence in the platform.
Temu’s journey in Africa began in South Africa last year, where it has garnered significant traction. A recent survey by News24 revealed that one in three South Africans have used Temu, with nearly 40% becoming active monthly users.
“Temu has decoupled price and quality by removing intermediary markups and enabling consumers to buy directly from manufacturers,” explained e-commerce strategist Gregor Murray. “This allows consumers to access the same pricing previously only available to large-scale buyers.”
Temu’s global expansion has been remarkable. The platform has quickly become one of the most visited e-commerce sites worldwide and a top Apple-recommended app of 2024.
Favour Kolapo, a civil engineer from Osun State, praised Temu’s product quality, ease of payment, and fast shipping. “I’d give them kudos on that,” she said, acknowledging that Temu is still a work in progress in Nigeria but holds significant potential.
As Temu continues to grow in the Nigerian market, it is poised to further revolutionize the country’s e-commerce landscape, offering consumers unprecedented access to affordable and high-quality products.
