Taraba gov, others seek completion of abandoned N70bn bridge project

Taraba State governor, Agbu Kefas and other influential individuals from the state have expressed deep concern over the stalled construction of the multi-billion naira Ibbi Bridge.

The contract for the construction of the bridge, spanning the Benue River, was awarded in 2020 by the Muhammadu Buhari administration, with an estimated cost of N70 billion.

However, the project has been abandoned for the past two years by the company initially tasked with its completion.

Governor Agbu Kefas, along with General T. Y. Danjuma (rtd), National Assembly members from Taraba Southern senatorial zone and other key stakeholders, visited the project site in Ibbi town yesterday to assess the situation firsthand.

Speaking at the site, Governor Kefas voiced his worries about the halted progress of the bridge, noting its significant potential for boosting economic development in the region and alleviating transportation challenges faced by residents.

He emphasised that the completed bridge would serve as a vital link, providing a shorter route to the federal capital, Abuja, and various other states across the country.

The governor urged the federal government to take swift action in mobilising the contractor back to site.
