Dr. Akande noted, “In line with long-standing tradition, the CJN will deliver a State of the Judiciary address with a view to highlighting the state of the Supreme Court in particular, and the Nigerian Judiciary in general, in the 2024/2025 legal year.”
He added, “The swearing-in of new SANs is a proud moment for the Nigerian legal profession and underscores our commitment to excellence, ethics, and professionalism.”
Key stakeholders in the justice sector are expected to make presentations during the special court session.
Those scheduled to speak include the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
“Their contributions will focus on critical challenges facing our legal system and reforms needed to enhance justice delivery across the nation,” the statement said.
The statement also recalled that the Supreme Court commenced its annual vacation on July 21, 2025, following a “remarkably successful” 2024/2025 legal year.
On July 24, 2025, the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee released the list of 57 lawyers approved for elevation to SAN, comprising 56 practicing advocates and one academic.
The swearing-in ceremony, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., marks a key milestone in Nigeria’s legal calendar and reinforces the tradition of excellence within the legal profession.
CJN Kekere-Ekun remarked, “This occasion celebrates the dedication and perseverance of our legal practitioners who have demonstrated outstanding competence and integrity.”
