Super Eagles star out of 2026 World Cup qualifier

Nigeria will be without defender Semi Ajayi for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa due to a hamstring injury.

Ajayi picked up the injury during Hull City’s Championship clash with Coventry City last weekend.

He had previously been rested for Hull’s Carabao Cup defeat at Wrexham United as a precaution.

Scans have now confirmed further damage, sidelining the 31-year-old for an estimated four to six weeks.

Ajayi, who struggled with hamstring issues last season, made only 15 appearances during his final season with West Bromwich Albion.

The Super Eagles will host Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, September 6, before traveling to Bloemfontein to face South Africa three days later.
