The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, His Eminence Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged Muslims across Nigeria to demonstrate concrete actions that strengthen national unity and counter divisive narratives.
Addressing the Council’s Expanded General Purpose Committee Meeting in Abuja, the Sultan pledged the body’s commitment to tackling negative portrayals of Nigeria’s religious harmony.
“We will play a positive role in addressing these challenges,” he said, cautioning against using social media to spread propaganda or personal attacks on the country’s image.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who attended the meeting, dismissed recent claims of religious intolerance as “fake news that endangers democracy.”
He reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s resolve to preserve Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty through truth, dialogue, and diplomacy.
“This administration builds the nation not with guns, but with honesty and respect,” Idris declared, assuring that all activated channels are advancing peace and security.
The session highlighted the vital role of faith leaders in promoting tolerance, responsible communication, and collective nation-building.
