The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced Monday, August 25, 2025, as the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH.
The declaration, made on Saturday, was relayed by Professor Sambo Junaidu, Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs.
Following consultations with the National Moon Sighting Committee, it was confirmed that the new crescent moon was not sighted on Saturday, August 23, 2025, marking the 29th of Safar 1447AH.
Consequently, Sunday, August 24, will be the 30th of Safar, and Monday will usher in Rabi’ul Awwal.
This significant Islamic month, commemorating the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) birth, will see nationwide religious observances, prayers, and celebrations.
The announcement ensures coordinated planning for mosques and Islamic organizations across Nigeria.
