Student hacks colleague to death in Nasarawa

Operatives of the Nasarawa State Command have apprehended a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, for allegedly hacking his colleague to death.

the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the arrest in a statement obtained by Daily Trust in Lafia on Sunday.

He said the arrest followed a complaint from a resident, Madam Mercy-Bassey, about a violent altercation between two of her tenants.

He said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), in Lafia for further investigation and prosecution.

According to the police, detectives were dispatched to the scene, where they found Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student, lying in a pool of blood.

The state PPRO added that the deceased was rushed to General Hospital in Nasarawa but was pronounced dead owing to the severity of his injuries.

He added that the suspect, John Gambo, an ND2 Banking and Finance student, was apprehended and confessed to attacking the victim with an axe and a knife.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, had ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation and prosecution.

He said the victim’s body had been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.

He said items, stained with blood, used in committing the crime, were recovered from him as evidence.
