A Nigerian man has taken to social media to call out pastors who frequently use their wives as negative examples during sermons.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), he complained that the habit has become far too common, saying it is embarrassing to watch grown men “shade” their own wives just to drive a message home.
According to him, pastors did not marry their wives to turn them into bad illustrations on the pulpit.
He argued that if a pastor cannot speak of his wife as “the best thing that happened to him after salvation,” then she should be left out of sermons entirely.
The man added that no matter how well-intentioned a pastor may be, the moment he begins highlighting his wife’s flaws, the congregation stops focusing on the message and starts focusing on the mockery.
His post quickly went viral, sparking reactions from Nigerians who agreed that many pastors need to do better. Some noted that church leaders should lead by example and protect their homes, not ridicule them in public.
One user commented, “Omo this is so true! Pastors drag their wives too much on pulpits.” Another added, “Respect starts from the pulpit. Preach Christ, not your wife’s mistakes.”
The conversation continues as many call for pastors to set healthier boundaries and uphold their wives with honor both privately and publicly.
