As Nigerians continue to appreciate the creative leadership of Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, Adewole Oluwasolape, a Communication Consultant and Chief Executive of Blue Tile Media, has lauded the administrative style of the Minister.
Adewole Oluwasolape, in a chat with Daily Independent, said Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s creative reforms of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) deserved commendation.
He said, “The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is witnessing a major transformation under the leadership of the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Since his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Corps has intensified the fight against illegal activities, improved officer welfare, and introduced key reforms to enhance national security.
“Reports indicated that between March 2021 and December 2024, the Special Intelligence Corps (SIC) arrested 1,645 suspects, prosecuted 906 individuals and secured 171 convictions.
“Similarly, he set up the Mining Marshals, a unit set up to curb illegal mining, handling 215 cases that have led to the arrest of 307 arrests and 133 prosecutions since March 2024.
According to Adewole, the CG Special Intelligence Squad (CG SIS) has also intensified operations, recording 1,667 arrests and the destruction of 1,069 illegal refineries, leading to the seizure of 78 trucks linked to oil theft alongside ongoing investigations into 34 cases.
“In a bid to modernize the Corps, Tunji-Ojo has overseen the procurement of advanced surveillance tools, intelligence-gathering systems, and automated record-keeping platforms. Since August 2021, the NSCDC has acquired 8 armoured gunboats, 179 operational vehicles, and 306 motorbikes to strengthen its capacity. Additionally, 41,231 officers have been promoted to boost their morale and enhance the agency’s effectiveness.”
Adewole commended the Minister for developing a new training curriculum that ensured professionalism and better preparedness for emerging security threats just as he reinforced efforts to protect the country’s agricultural sector through the Agro Rangers initiative.
Aside from the agro-rangers that provide security for farmers, farmlands, and agro-allied businesses, he explained that Tunji-Ojo has turned around the Safe School Initiative by creating the Special Female Squad, a dedicated unit safeguarding schools with 500 personnel to enhance security in learning environments among other initiatives that has made NSCDC a smart corps.
